What Is The Purpose Of Such Mobile Phone Applications And Technology?
Speaking to Al Arabiya TV, Prince Bandar bin Abdullah added that the Interior Ministry is improving its services. In this regard, the facility of fingerprinting, eye scanning, and facial recognition will be available in mobile phone applications to ease the Saudi visa process.
The facility of collecting applicants’ data through smartphones will make it much easier for visa holders, and they can upload their fingerprints or facial recognition through their smartphones sitting in their homes or offices. Whereas before, the applicants had to go to the designated office and get the data feed.
It is noticeable that initially, this service got launched on an experimental basis for a few countries, and later, it will get launched for all countries in phases.
Smartphone data feeding will be for all visas, including Umrah, Hajj, Visit, or Work Visas.
Digital Services For Foreigners, Including Residency Renewals And Final Exits.
To facilitate the conduct of government affairs for foreigners and locals living in Saudi Arabia, the Ministry of Interior uses state-of-the-art technology to ensure the best services are available to make it easier for people to access government services.

Acquisition of government services before digital services:
Before the year 2000, essential government services for foreigners in Saudi Arabia, including renewal of residency, issuance of exit or final exit visa, and renewal and issuance of the license and vehicle ownership card from the traffic police, were very difficult.
(1)- It used to take at least two days for the departure to take place. The exit re-entry visa is usually stamped on the passport, for which one has to buy a coupon to pay the prescribed fee, fill it along with the exit promise form, and then submit it along with a copy of the residence and passport which is two or sometimes four. The day after the exit, the promised visa was issued.
(2)- Similarly, the process of renewal of residency was also a matter of great urgency for which special representatives got appointed in all the institutions whose job was only to deal with the affairs of the government institutions.
(3)- The licensing head office would close at 2 p.m., forcing agents to go to the permits early in the morning and queue up, and when the licensing officer found any errors, the matter would have to be re-prepared.
Getting Emergency Exit-Visa Before Digital Services:
In the past, a counter at the Licensing Office was permanently open where emergency calls get made when the Licensing Office was running out of time. The emergency exit had to go through several stages to get the promise. An application would get made to the company’s human resources department or organization from where a company representative would get called who would obtain an emergency exit visa.
Ease Ater Digital Services Program:
With modern technology becoming common in the country since the year 2000, the Ministry of Home Affairs was the first to launch digital services in the licensing agency.
(1)- Using state-of-the-art technology to compile foreigners’ and citizens’ data, licenses got linked to it, for which a database centre had set up where official information of the people get collected in stages.
(2)- Card residency gets introduced by updating the system in licenses with digital services. The coupon system gets abolished and converted into payment through a bank account, simplifying collecting fees for the renewal of residency and exit promise.
(3)- Citizens ‘and foreigners’ data was linked to a fingerprint system to separate and secure people’s information.
(4)- With the issuance of card residency, the facility got provided that the exit promise get linked to the sponsor’s account called Kafeel so that the exit promise of the workers could get obtained from the sponsor system.
(5)- Digitization of exit Visas and residency renewals solved all the above problems. At the same time, Queuing at the licensing office since morning got also eliminated. It made it easier for people to obtain an exit visa t without going JAWAZZAT office.
